Andrea Jensen was built in 1939 in the fishing port of Esbjerg, Denmark as a sailing fishing boat, and she worked in the North Sea until 1988. She was then decommissioned and restored to sail with a traditional Gaff Rig. Built of solid oak, displacing 75 tons, she is very stable, safe and comfortable. Andrea Jensen has sailed out of Alghero, Sardinia for the last 17 years and is a popular local attraction that guests return to year after year.
Andrea Jensen is an 80 foot Gaff Ketch (two masts) and has the ability to hoist up to 6 sails (depending on the number of crew and weather conditions). She was very heavily built in order to withstand fishing in the dangerous North Sea between Denmark and Scotland. Her Oak hull planking is up to 100mm thick!
Andrea Jensen is registered as a small commercial vessel by the UK regulatory body the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA). She is inspected annually by a UK surveyor on their behalf. Her stability conforms to the highest standard class 0, which means she could sail safely anywhere in the world. She carries liferafts, lifejackets, lifebuoys, flares, first aid kit etc in accordance with MCA requirements.
In addition she is licensed by the local Italian authorities to operate day trips excursions from Alghero, Sardinia.
